Well... another dealing with Belkin down the track and I'm never buying another one of their products again, between claims that my product doesn't exist and then finally being told that my unit is defective, but out of warranty (which is supposed to be for a year but I was accused of modding the router), I would have to buy a new one. FUCKING BELKIN.

Also, Apple is missing a crucial part of their business plan, a 'what do we do when multiple members of our staff fuck up' plan. I ordered a macbook on Sunday, in the hopes that I would get it in the 2-4 days delivery time expected, after not even getting the paperwork for ADC (Apple Developers Connection), I rang them up and as it turns out, unlike what I was told on a previous call, I wouldn't need to fill out any paperwork, as the paperwork was in fact 'auto filled' or 'auto enrolled. So my MacBook Pro was delayed for almost a week due to a screw up in the billing department, the Developers department and the Education department. Due to this, the order had to be refiled and sent for delivery straight away. But wait there is more. I got a call a couple of hours later on my mobile saying that the refile had to be rechecked against education records, as the old details weren't carried over, so more delays. What was supposed to be delivered BY Wednesday at the latest my not be here until at least Friday now. Is it me or is there something seriously wrong with this?

Some good news is at hand as well though, it seems that Microsoft may be releasing its first major service pack for windows Vista within the next two months, so now I might finally be able to take advantage of the 'wow'. However taking into account the Microsoft delay facer (double the time) plus the Vista time tax (doubling again) it may not be out for as much as 6 - 8 months, YAY!!!

Yea... wow its another one of my rants... But the good news is that there is some good news after it all.

Exams. I hate them. I hate studying for them as they give me a headache and make me stress more then they should. But I have to live with them so ill survive. But that's not my rant, god no, that's my personal life

My rant for the night is about tech support lines. After much putting off I finally rang Belkin to get an answer as to why my line attenuation is so high (in the mid to high 50's for those who know what I'm on about). I waited the stock standard 15 minutes whilst being told that my call "was important to them" and putting up with that SHITTY music. Eventually I got an Indian woman who clearly had known the English language for about a day, but I persevered. After running tests I told here I had done, she came up with the idea that it was a problem with my external modem, great, except I don't HAVE an external modem. You know I have one of those routers wit an ADSL2+ modem inside them. "Belkin doesn't make them" she says. After what I can only describe as a minor haemorrhage in my brain I decided to go into ass hole mode as I had had more then enough of this. I asked the question "where are you located" to which I got the answer "Sydney." Blatant lying and stupidity, that's a catchy slogan for the tech Support line.

This would have been fine however if she then didn't go and get her manager, who told me as well that this product didn't exist and that I must have the wrong company. It is for this reason call centres HAVE to be removed from India. perhaps if Belkin and all the other companies actually thought about what most of their customers thought of Indian call centres, they would stop using them. But how could they not? There has been a huge uproar about the use of these centres and yet they do nothing. Customer Service is dead in my opinion and will be forever unless we lower our unemployment rate (Mr Howard) and bring these jobs back to Australia. Instead I get to put up with "technical support" that I might as well have saved my sanity and looked it up through goggle, would have worked better.

As a secondary note, block was the worst idea on MSN ever, if you don't want to talk to me, at least have the balls to tell me why, don't just push that little button and pussy out. Ill only piss you off more if I don't know what I have done wrong.

There is however some good news/justice being served out for the world, Paris Hilton is back in jail and the average IQ of America has risen a couple of points. Yet George Bush's approval ratings have never been higher, a rise followed by a fall, only in America hey?

As you can tell by my name, this is a rant... don’t wanna hear it, go away then…

I recently saw DoDo's latest ad announcing their move into mobile phones. I was thinking as I saw this "here we go, another idiotic idea from the advertisers at DoDo." I wasn’t let down. They claim that for $69 that you can get $700 of usage from them, now I have always been a skeptic about DoDo's plans but i was surprised by this, how could a company possibly afford to give a user of their services ten times more then what they pay for? The answer is just like the rest of their "outrageously good deals"

Before I go any further though I would like to say that I am an Optus customer and all figures I have gotten are available from DoDo's page or Optus's page. Now on with the show

The comparison product I will be using is the Optus Cap closest to the DoDo priced plan, in this cans their 59 CAP. This includes $350 dollars worth of usage. Now, the basic rates (Call cost, SMS Rate and flag fall) between DoDo and Optus are quite similar so on the surface it looks like your getting a great deal, double the 'credit' for only ten dollars more. Most would be sold on this fact, but as you dig deeper you find some disturbing things.

Firstly, only $550 of this $700 DoDo supplies you with is usable to call all providers, the other $150 is to be used calling other DoDo customers, which I’m sure there will be tons of... however even so there is $200 to be accounted for otherwise, Optus and all other Service providers would be in big trouble. DoDo's "Super Caps" don’t come with a new phone, now on the Optus plan; you can get a LG KU970 worth $619 for free. We now have Optus's product at $34 a month taking out the total cost of the mobile per month of about $25. In value terms, Optus is now offering a better product, for $34 you get $350 worth of calls to ANYONE, whilst all DoDo can offer is $69 for $700, $150 of which can only be used to call other DoDo customers.

However this continues. For MMS (Multimedia Message Service or picture messages) DoDo charges 60c per message as opposed to the 50c Optus charges, whilst this seems like a small increase, MMS's take up a surprisingly large amount of mobile phone usage today, and this is the difference between sending 10 MMS's per $5 on Optus and 8 MMS's on DoDo. Finally, in the lesser used realm of mobiles, video calling, DoDo charges an outrageous 95c per 30 seconds, a 45c difference from Optus's 50c per 30 seconds.

We now have a situation is which not only does the costs external to the external fees not stack up, but neither do the service fees. Not taking the call costs into account, DoDo has a total value multiplier (worked out by dividing the total allowance per month by the cost per month) of 10.145, this takes into account the $700. Optus has a value multiplier of 10.294. Whilst these numbers aren't different by much, between these and the difference in MMS and video call rates, the odds are stacked against DoDo in value terms.

I wish that this weren’t the case with all their other products but it is. For dialup, the number called is a Sydney number so you are charged STD rates for every dial you make (a difference of 28c per dialup on DoDo's home phone plans). The Tech support line is based in Sydney and charges the user to call, so an STD rate is charged to us people in Perth as well. There are others but i feel as if i am flogging a dead horse here, my point has been made, How does DoDo stay afloat. Even its name suggests its doom, do you see any Do Do birds around anymore, no because they were stupid creatures. Perhaps this is a reference to how stupid one would have to be to become a customer with them, but then again, their advertising is compelling, a badly created talking bird with an annoying voice... sounds GREAT to me.

After a long and quite hard day of thinking, I have decided that it would probably be better if I stopped coming to UCC. I have made this decision based on a number of different points, which I will try to explain as best as I can.

Firstly, I want people to understand... I am posting this to get as much sympathy as possible, and I don’t expect to be trolled at all for this.

I would like to point out the following quote:

Now I feel as though my ownership of a desknote has been picked on more than enough. Simply because I like big things, does not make me any less human. I deserve the same respect as all those who like (stupidly enough) those tiny little macbooks (I’m really just jealous that my desknote doesn’t conform in any way to the size of my penis). As a student, I have the right to be different and to want different things than most people; after all, being Bi makes big things wonderful. I feel as if I have to conform to what people expect of me and my desknote.

Furthermore, I can link my want of a desknote to my being diagnosed with ADHD, I mean how else would I make such a stupid mistake?

Instead of putting myself and my desknote in a position where we do not feel comfortable, I have decided to instead leave the club, and we will only come back if we can be assured that our rights are going to be upheld. Although I am sure that my decision to not come back will make more people happy then it will disappoint, so I doubt that I will return anytime soon. Instead I am going to concentrate on my studies elsewhere. I will be staying away from Cameron Hall completely, since UCC is not the only club with members who are harassing me and my desknote.

I am not filing a formal complaint to the guild. I see no reason too, since the most obvious solution for the moment is to just remove myself and my desknote from the equation.

I know that a few of you guys have been very nice to me and my desknote, and quite supportive, I do appreciate the effort that you have put in to cope with me and my desknote, as I guess I'm quite alot to deal with. Please do not take this personally, but its not your fault that this has happened. It is my fault because I couldn’t buy a better laptop.

I have always wondered why i never understand the greater population of the world and i now have an answer, they just don't do logical things. Take the people i ran into on the train today... not only did this guy think that me running into him was me "startin' some shizit" but then his friends then starts on me for "lookin' at his girl." Now i was looking at guy number one for the entire time and i have to say... unless he is your girl... FUCK OFF!!! High School kids... jesus christ.

In other news... Uni exams are nearly here so i really should start studying... but i just don't want to. Who wants to study when you can Booze it up like hell, and party the time away...?

Anyway ill finish my rant here... but expect more later... when my illogical train of thought continues.
